Running up that hill

Just a day left before the year is over and as I sit at my desk, reviewing 2015, the enormity of what we have done over the past 12 months is quite staggering. So much so that I am really not sure where to begin.

I guess I may as well start with the highlight of the year, which was winning the runner up Award for ‘Most Enterprising business’ from the Federation of Small Businesses.

Being nominated was exciting enough, celebrating on the night with my motley crew was great, winning felt like having my cake and eating it.  Before the night ended, changes were heading our way that are now forming the backbone for an interesting and new journey that we at Nadia Minkoff London have already begun.  Recognition for fashion from the financial sector is never easy to get, nor one to be taken lightly and I am very proud and excited that we have been given the opportunity to work and be mentored by none other than Grant Thornton. Who said number crunching, spreadsheets and forecasts aren’t creative? They are, very much so!

We’re also up for the Dot London Award, in the ‘best lifestyle’ category. The awards will be held at the new Savoy Place, hosted by Katie Derham.  River views all round, entrepreneurs, dragons and investors, at the ready.

Thank you to all those who voted for us, votes close on Jan 8th and if you still want to vote for us pls do so by following this link , find us in the ‘Independent lifestyle retailer’ category.

Some of our other highlights for 2015 have been:

  • With the help of stylist Charlene Campbell we made the Christmas issue of OK magazine

  • The lovely Aizak Buyondo styled our jewellery as only Aizak could and made our day

  • Beautiful Opera star Aylin Perez wore our Shard necklace for her Grand Finale at the Dallas Opera house and Nancy Dell’olio stepped out for her West-End stage debut wearing one of our ‘one-off’ necklaces

  • We have partied, yes- a lot of parties, too many to attend all but we did quite well!

  • We’ve exhibited at Scoop London and INDX and opened new doors across the UK

  • We have had so much support from the Blogging community across the globe, all of which can be found on our website. Thank you Bloggers, we love you!

We’ve held events at Liberty London and have seen our designs become best sellers at some of the leading UK multiples who we supply

But most of all, we have loved it all, even if we are forever running up that hill!

Wishing you all a successful, healthy, happy and especially peaceful 2016, from us all at Nadia Minkoff London.

Who, what and wear

I can’t quite believe the last time I actually put pen to paper ( fingers to keyboard) and blogged was in July!

Wasn’t being lazy, just incredibly busy and it’s amazing how once you let time slip it snowballs before you know it.        So I am making my New year resolution now at the end of November, no point waiting, and it is to make sure that I no longer have such long lapses.

I guess first thing first, to get back into the swing of things, a quick recap of what we’ve been up to since July, and also what and wear??

In August we won the runners up award for Most innovative Business at the London FSB awards, what a night! what a surprise! we’ve not looked back since , it’s been a whirlwind.

In Sept we updated our on-line shop with the new Winter 2015 lines. And our best-sellers?  Crystal skulls and midi totes

Skull & shard earrings, black

October was show season again, we were back in full swing at Scoop London previewing our Summer 2016 collection

November seems to have come and gone at the blink of an eye. So, SO much went on, so where do I start?

Soprano Aylin Perez, twitted photos of her with her Nadia Minkoff London delivery

And a week later of her wearing her ‘delivery’, our Crystal Shard statement necklace  during her grand Finale at the Dallas Opera House

Nancy Dell’olio stepped out onto the West End stage wearing her bespoke Nadia Minkoff London necklace for her One-Woman show

And to top it all? we  found out we are up for another award! The Dot London award for Best London Lifestyle Indie retailer, woohoo!    And if you think we deserve it pls give us your vote, it takes 2 ticks, just follow this link put in your name and hit yes when you get the confirmation email.

Will be back soon, x Nadia

The launch of the new iphone 6 is a case of having your apple and eating it… plus the menu that could WIN you a new clutch bag

12 days to go till we show our new Spring Summer  2015 collection at Scoop International, so I am keeping a daily countdown diary to launch- welcome to my world! Problems, solutions, uncertainties, yet more problems and the unexpected in store!

Day 10

The email from our shipping agent, Kevin, bought with it some ominous news:

Subject: RE: AIR ship this Fri 27/06

Hi Sawako

Air space is very tight at the moment and the earliest ETA will be Thursday mainly due to iphone 6 launch

Rgds Kevin

I responded immediately:

Subject: RE: AIR ship this Fri 27/06

Oh no, what a disaster! Unfortunately the goods are booked for next Thursday 03/07 and we can’t change it, it’s taken me so long to get the account with this customer back and running that if I am late I will lose it!! Is there really nothing to be done?? and will this be the case for most shipping companies… can’t quite believe what I am reading.

Let me know what you suggest,

Many thanks, Nadia

Kevin replies  :

Hi Nadia

Everyone is facing the same problems but I’ll wait to hear from Dawson tomorrow

See what the airlines are suggesting

 Rgds Kevin

When it came to shipping I thought I had seen it all: strikes, China airports closed due to heavy fogs, winds, volcanic eruptions in Iceland, we even lost cargo to a ship that sank ( no kidding), but this… well I never.. and who am I to compete for space with the mighty apples?

I shrug my shoulders in disbelief, although I’m not one for giving up I know there is nothing I can do, after all who am I ?

I turn my attention to more pleasurable things, on Sunday July 13th, opening night at Scoop I’ll be attending the networking dinner at the Saatchi Gallery, my menu has been sent and I need to email back to confirm what I am ordering.  If you can guess what I have ordered and email my selection to , you could WIN our beautiful Pimlico clutch in red… which btw,for those of you who are getting the new iphone 6- is the perfect bag to carry it in !!

PIMLICO red side

Menu as follows:

First course – (served cold)

Chilled English pea & watercress soup with rose petal cream

Endive salad with Cashel blue, apple and toasted hazelnuts

Main Course

Angus beef burger, served with fries

Roast chicken breast, gnocchi, summer veg and moral veloute

Line caught cod, rainbow chard and cockles

Pumpkin tortellini with butternut squash puree and gorgonzola cream sauce

Chocolate & lavender brulee with raspberries & shortbread

Custard tart, with poached Yorkshire rhubarb

Fresh fruit salad with sorbet

  • Half bottle red or white wine
  • Tea/coffee

Happy guessing and happy weekend, I will update you on Monday and notify the winner, so you have little time, better get emailing

Dream of seeing a live runway during London Fashion Week? well you’re in with a chance!

Yes, it’s official ! Nico Didonna & Nadia Minkoff London collaborate for the 3rd time during London Fashion Week, Feb 15th at The Bloomsbury set Event!

Cutting edge bespoke tailor and dress designer Nico Didonna  will be presenting his ‘wrap,Protect & conceal ‘ collection in collaboration with London based accessory designer Nadia Minkoff  on Feb 15th as part of the Bloomsbury set event, during London Fashion Week.

The duo who have collaborated for the past 2 seasons are looking forward to hosting their third collaboration, in the heart of Central London to an estimated crowd of 500 guests which will   include 150 press.

The ‘Wrap, Protect & Conceal’ collection has been designed with flexibility and elegance at the forefront. Inspired by winter’s natural vigour, the collection, created with a vibrant and deep colour pallet with symmetrical designs and tactile pleating , embrace the female shape creating a sense of voluptuousness – Nico Didonna’s design trademark.

The accessories have been designed to enhance the collection without over shadowing it. Much thought has gone into the fine details and the colour pallete to ensure a harmonious marriage of texture, colour and functionality.

The Bloomsbury Set event, now in its 4th season, is the brain child of affinity branding expert Stephen Mahoney and fashion consultant/journalist Cristina Polizzi. The emphasis is to bring together high quality designers and products, 2 daily runway offerings  and static show, in order to create a lifestyle event within London Fashion Week.

You can win 2 tickets and an opportunity to win  a Nadia Minkoff London Belgravia Crystal clutch by visiting Zoe Griffin’s ‘Live like a VIP’

Go on, it may well be you!

To have and to hold… musings of a bag lady

I’ve finally got my own regular feature in a magazine I really like, how cool is that? It took me a while to get going, having agreed to the column I suddenly had writers block, followed by prolonged hesitation and a lot of doubt. My monthly feature ‘musings of a bag lady’ is really just that :bags, more bags, accessories, trends and I’m guessing yet more bags! But I hope to share with my readers a mix of ‘inside’ knowledge from the industry and my personal take on what is currently trending and why.

Please have a read through the first one ‘ to have and to hold’ and let me know what you think, would love to have your feedback.

Also, you can bag yourself ( excuse the pun) one of our lovely St Johns Wood tote bags in dark Navy, Women Talking are running a competition for this bag and the details are on the page. It’s a very , very lovely bag so be sure to enter!

The weeks Top Nine

In a week that saw the British summer behave like it really should: rain, followed by the hottest day of the year, followed by hailstones at dawn I chose my inspiring photos to reflect what this week has felt like to me… warm, laid back with beautiful light. Seems the ‘new arrivals’ in the high street  shops reflect this too, soft prints, soft colours, flirty strappy shoes. And for those of you fortunate enough to be in London this month two suggestions:

Must try Nitro ice cream @ the Chin Chin Labs in Camden Lock.

Must see… a ‘staple’ London landmark, the O2, which has now opened its roof to those who want to embark on a 40 minute climb to view this spectacular city from above.

All the important links for the Top nine can be found on our webpage

Whatever you are doing have a chilled August,

X Nadia

A quick snapshot from life…

As some of you may know we recently introduced a weekly column to our website ( and newsletter) called ‘Top Nine’, a collection of my personal snaps , things I have seen, eaten, wanted, heard, read- basically anything that inspired me. We ran a competition this week on our FB wall and on our Twitter account asking our followers to send us some inspiring images, personal or otherwise, or weblinks for us to use in our forthcoming newsletter. To my great surprise, no fashion inspiration was submitted but I guess with the opportunity to snap so readily using ones phone people do really capture little snapshot of their lives that mean something to them. A snapshot that makes remembering something special a whole lot easier. It was hard to choose a winner, we had such lovely entries and in the end we chose two because their photos felt , to me anyway, like England feels at the moment: hot, lazy and rather cosy. so here we go:

Anne Bostwick, ‘stairway to heaven’ snapped at St Nicholas Church, Pevensey, East Sussex.

Kel Bridge ‘Rocks’

These are my children and their friends exploring on the exact same rocks as I did as a child, and the exact same ones my mum did too on her camping trips as a child 🙂

Getting ready to love

I know Valentine’s day is a commercial affair , I am well aware that in general any meal you go to on Valentine’s day is expensive and not all that, still… I’m all for making ‘love’ the highlight of the day. I love seeing all the flowers, love all the chocolates and I think we should in fact celebrate it twice a year, why not?

Our weekly ‘wish list’ is all ‘valentied’ up and you could also win one of our lovely ‘Love hearts’ necklaces, all beautifully wrapped with a personalised card. Just email and let us know who you would like it for and what your card will say, we will be picking the winner on Feb 10th.
