Dana’s Blog: Day 2

Hello again,

Day 2 is among us! Today was really fun. Nadia is going to be working on her website in the near future, so she asked me to look around other designers’ websites to see what I thought worked and what I thought didn’t.

Sidenote: I really like how everything I do here is related to what I study. I thought I’d be making coffee for people and getting yelled at (these are the horror stories my sister tells me, nothing personal), but I actually really enjoy the tasks I do. Also I get to put my excellent Tumblr skills/Facebook stalking talents to good use (see, Dad, told you it’ll come in handy)!

(hahaha)

Anyway, back to the point. We’re trying to make the website a little more interactive, so it helps to see what other great companies are doing and to see if it generates any inspiration for what to do with Nadia’s.

I added some new cool things to the Tumblr as well so keep checking that out and make sure to follow!

Lastly, I will be resurrecting the company’s Instagram, as the last post was 76 weeks ago, which is not okay. Instagram is my fave social media platform so I know I’ll greatly enjoy that. Follow along and see what I end up posting!

That’s it for today, I’m afraid, but I’ll be sure to post tomorrow’s blog, so please check that out too!

Have a great day!

Dana’s Blog: Day 1

Hi everyone!

I’m Dana, a student at Northeastern University in Boston. Today is my first day of what will be a month long internship/work experience at Nadia Minkoff London, and while I’m here, we thought it would be fun for me to blog about what I’m up to, and what goes on here.

Today, my first task was to customise the company’s Tumblr, which despite being 2 years old, wasn’t in the greatest shape (sorry, Nadia!). This is what it looks like now, check it out at nadia-minkoff-london.tumblr.com and let me know what you think! (While you’re at it, check us out on Facebook and Twitter, too).

I then compiled a list of all the biggest UK fashion magazines with their contact info, which we’ll use if we need to send out a press release. This was much easier said than done, as a lot of the magazines didn’t publicise the email addresses of their fashion editors online, so I had to try and find them using alternative methods.

Eventually my computer died. And I forgot a charger. I felt really bad but Nadia was so nice about it. In fact, everyone here is really nice, which is great for me. Anyway, that’s it from me today. I’ll post another update on here tomorrow, so stay tuned!

The tables are turning

Les Aldrich music shop in London’s Muswell Hill had been advertising ‘Record Store day’ for some time.

ImageI was curious to know if it would attract any attention and confess I was somewhat doubtful, I certainly didn’t expect to see a queue of people waiting outside in the early morning hours of Saturday  April 19th  and it seems this continued throughout  the duration of the day.

ImageRecord Store Day, now in its 7th year, is celebrated by independently owned record stores in the UK with special CD and Vinyl releases made exclusively for the day, as well as promotional goods and in-store live gigs and events.

Les Aldrich, who have an expanding CD range (classical, jazz and contemporary) introduced a range of retro looking turntables into their shop several months ago, alongside a whole lot of Vinyl!

ImageIf you can’t find what you want on the shelf they order it for you- from the good old classics, to new mainstream releases and even the darn right bizarre. My latest ( by recommendation of Ed the manager at Les Aldrich)  certainly belongs to the darn right bizarre category ,I’m not even sure how to describe it- Indian mixed  with Jazz and some pretty amazing vocals??  anyway,it’s great,

But whatever the case may be, Vinyl is definitely back, which makes me very happy.  If you’re not familiar with this medium it’s definitely worth checking it out and if you are, it’s definitely worth checking out what’s on offer.

It’s a dogs life…

North London’s leafy Muswell Hill, home to many a café now has a new ‘hot-spot’ for dog owners and dog lovers alike.  This (for me anyway) was a new and I have to say, wonderful experience.

‘Scooby’s Boutique Coffee Bar’ opened its doors in the New Year for hounds & humans, and the hounds definitely come first!

Dogs are warmly greeted by the café’s owner (and dog lover) Lisa as well as Florence, her Wire Fox Terrier.

The retro interior, right down to the coffee cups is  both welcoming and quirky (of course I chose to sit next to a bright yellow table) and as for the dogs- they get given their own specially made, brightly coloured ‘doggy mat’  unless of course they choose to chill out in the 60’s blue ball chair. A bowl of water is placed on arrival and food is served on the mat in a retro style ceramic bowl! Can’t tell you just how happy the dogs I saw were! Tails wagging over-time!

There is a menu for Humans and Hounds and as such the counter display has equally exciting offers for both, on the left a great selection of cakes and bakery treats for humans, on the right a selection of doggy biscuits and doggy treats and at the weekend they even serve baked pies and cakes for dogs-( a healthy mixture of chicken, vegetables and other dog delights of course)

The walls are kitted out with stylish dog accessories, shampoos, biscuits and books, there is free wifi and for those in a rush a take-away service for both dogs and owners

I don’t have a dog ( but I am a dog lover) and I wasn’t sure what it would feel like to sit in a café for dogs and their owners but I have to say that not only was the coffee perfect, it was one of the nicest and friendliest cafe’s I have been to, I can’t recommend it enough and I am definitely going again!
